About Arla Foods

Arla Foods are a multi-site Food & Drink company, specialising in dairy products/brands.

They have 10 production sites in the UK, and PEAK Visual Management were initially engaged to work on Visual workplace projects at their site in Stourton, Leeds.

Peak VM worked together with the Operational Improvement team at Arla to identify key locations to elevate the visual cues and messages being imparted on staff and visitors. The following is a small sample summary of sub-projects that Peak VM Visual Management Advisor Lauren Edwards delivered for the client.

Reception Area Graphics

The Opportunity

Located at the main entrance of the building, is a Reception Lobby, which all Arla members, visitors and contractors pass through to gain access to the upper office floors and production corridors, by stairway or lift. The opportunity for this area was to find a way to communicate the companies Safety Principles and Cornerstones on arrival, before entering any other areas. By outlining these principles on arrival, it would give all members accountability for their safety and to look out for the safety of others.

The Solution

A banner style design was conceived and implemented to unify the available reception wall space. Standard branding elements were used to create the overall designs and maintain consistency. A Safety Pledge Board was implemented and displayed for all members to sign their name, aligning with the intention for all members to take accountability for their own safety.

The Result

ARLA were able to present their newly refurbished Reception Lobby to their International Team. The information around safety awareness and associated branding is now clearly displayed at the forefront of the business, encouraging team members (and visitors) to adopt a positive, pro-active and enthusiastic attitude towards safety on site. This also helps to create a consistent way of thinking and behaving on site.

Visitor Corridor Wall Graphics

The Opportunity

Arla was set to celebrate their 20th year celebration, since the site in Stourton, Leeds first opened.

They had planned a ‘Family Day’ for all employees and family members to attend and celebrate. As this celebration day was due to take place in their main visitors’ corridor on the second floor they also took the opportunity to present workplace visuals Wall Graphics for the corridor that would help celebrate their 20 year journey as well as have something to share with future visitors.

The Solution

With 53 Meters of wall space to work with, there was a strong opportunity to create a full overview of the Arla journey, story, inclusivity and team. Although there was a large amount of wall space available, it was important to design something that would ‘flow’ coherently from the start to end of the corridor and so the Wall Graphics were designed to be minimal, engaging and fun.

Starting by building the timeline for their new products, expansions and projects along the way, also including future projects to outline their goals for growth and the future.

As Arla has a vast selection of branding icons, shapes and colours, the designs were made to incorporate clear concise information/photos, alongside their standard iconography and identity.

A key feature of this part of the project was applying ‘patch’ graphics which would be applied after the main graphic install. This would allow Arla to refresh the graphics in the future by replacing the patches as they build up a new cache of visuals.

The Result

The full site install was completed in under a week and surpassed the client’s timeframe requirement. Peak VM supplied a full project management service. From specifying the wall space/site survey through detailed design process and install.

ARLA are now able to proudly share their journey with visitors and new staff, using the wall graphics as a point of reference and to help navigate the sites timeline. The corridor has been transformed from plain white walls to an eye catching and engaging story.

Final Result

‘I have worked with Peak Visual Management over the past year, working on delivery multiple projects. I cannot recommend working with Lauren more highly. Her attention to detail, creativity and drive to deliver exceptional service is second to none. The products we’ve created have now become a UK standard with the aim of rolling out as European standard in the coming months. The products we’ve designed not only look great and fit within the Arla branding but are also delivered at a high standard. This is just the start of the working relationship with Peak VM’
